How to Build a Voodoo Altar
Voodoo remains a fascinating and mysterious subject. If you are planning to practice, you will need an altar. The altar is the centerpiece of your rituals. The basic altar is a small box, table or chest, preferably wooden. You should cover your box with a cloth, choose a color relative to your spirit and a fabric that works for you. Make your altar accessible and inviting as you will visit it daily. An uncluttered altar keeps the energy stable.
To setup, you begin with a white candle for positive energy and a black candle for negative spirits. You can buy candle holders or use small plates. It's a good idea to invest in a snuffer to help your rituals go smoothly. Fill a small glass vase with water and witch's salt and place it between the black and white candles as your gray area. A knife is needed for cutting wicks, roots and wood. You need incense for your altar. Stick or loose burned over charcoal will do. Invoke the appropriate feelings with the proper incense. Add a calligraphy style-pen for writing and invest in Dragon's or Dove's Blood ink at your local spiritual shop. You will need nails or a needle for inscription of candles. Keep a scale handy for measuring herbs, powders and roots. Buy a pestle and mortar to grind your herbs with. Make sure you have parchment paper to write your requests.
Once you have all your items, you need to purify them with Holy Water or incense. You can douse them with the water while asking the spirits to bless them or you can pass them slowly through the incense smoke. After the purification, your tools are ready to be placed on your altar. Add pictures of your deceased loved ones to your altar for the final touch. Try to connect with your altar the same time daily and approach it with a relaxed mind and spirit. Keep your rituals positive and good things will manifest!
