Mabon Crafts: Make a Wheat Swag for Mabon, the Autumn Equinox

Mabon, the Autumn Equinox, is the Wiccan holiday of abundance and celebrates the completion of the harvest. Making a wheat swag is a wonderful way to celebrate the holiday and bring some of nature into your home during this autumn season.
You can also hang this lovely wheat swag in your yard and the birds will thank you by eating the wheat seeds. This is a great way to share the bounty of nature this Mabon.

The first thing you'll need to make a wheat swag for Mabon is, of course, the wheat. You'll need about twenty five stalks of wheat approximately thirty inches long and ten stalks of wheat approximately twenty four inches long. Wheat Stalks can be found in hobby and craft stores if you can't obtain them elsewhere.

The second thing you'll need to make a wheat swag for Mabon is three sprigs of pepper berries, each about three inches long. These can also be obtained at hobby and craft stores.

The next thing you'll need to make a wheat swag for Mabon is dried lichen. One piece about three inches in diameter should be sufficient for our wheat swag. Once again, buy dried lichen in hobby and craft stores or florist shops.

You'll also need some heavy-gauge floral wire to make a wheat swag for Mabon. You'll need two pieces cut to about five inches in length and two pieces cut to seven inches in length. Look at hobby, craft or florist shops to find floral wire. Wire cutters come in handy here, as well.

The last materials you'll need to make a wheat swag for Mabon are two yards of ribbon, approximately two inches wide, a hot glue gun and glue sticks. I usually use brown or burnt orange ribbon as these are the colors of Mabon.
