The Flyin Miata Voodoo Turbo Kit Review

The Miata has been the car of choice for individuals who want to participate in road racing for almost twenty years now. With its release in 1990 people have said that the Miata is the best car every designed. Of course being a Miata driver I do like to agree with them. Many people have put much time, and energy into their Miata in an effort to make it ready for competition. With the Miatas amazing handling, and great response time it has won many awards, and racing in its lifetime. One of the most popular thing to ad to a Miata is a turbo. In an effort to increase to horsepower without much difficulty many people have strapped a turbo under the hood of a Miata and tried to race it. Many without much success, until the company Flyin Miata who is a company that has a heart and soul based in racing Miatas. They have taken what many people have tried to do, and finally made it viable with the Flyin Miata Voodoo Turbo Kit. Which is a full turbo kit that includes everything you need to strap a turbo to your Miata, but the question still stand. Is it worth it?
I personally purchased this kit with the intentions of installing it on my 1992 white Miata. The engine in my car was completley stock. I purchased the full kit, with everything I needed to install. I even took the time to actually pull the engine and rebuild it before I attempted to install the kit just. Once I had everything rebuild, and ready to go back in I got the Turbo kit out and began the install. It was a fun experience to say the least. The actually installation of the parts was not difficult, but there was a few section of the installation I was not ready for. You actually have to cut the frame of the Miata so there is enough clearance for the kit. This sounded incredibly difficult when I read it in the install manual. So I took my time, and found it that it was in fact very easy. It took me about 4 days of hard work to get everything installed properly, this of course being due to the fact i was taking my time making sure everything was correct. Once everything was installed it was time to test the new system out.

So with everything ready, and just waiting for the first start up I got out my camera and prepared to start for the first time. I sat down in the drivers seat and I started the car. It seemed to jump to life, just wanting to be driven. After about 15 minutes of warm up time, I checked all the fluids, and other vital engine statistics all seemed normal. The car was warmed up and ready to go on it first road test. I pulled my Miata onto the street and took it gently down the road. When I made it onto the long straightaway that leads out of my driveway I gave the car a good acceleration. I was in shock. The turbo kit had taken my normally tame Miata and turned it into something that was unbelievably fast. I spent the next few hours exploring the extend of the new found speed. Within a week I felt I was ready to take my Miata to the track. I spent all day getting in as many laps as I could, I actually ended up shaving over 5 seconds of my usual track time. When asked by my friend what I did differently all I could tell them was turbo. So at the end of all this, when I ask was it worth it? The answer is a resounding yes. The Flyin Miata Turbo system is one of incredible design. I would suggest nothing more practical to other Miata owners then this kit.
