The Truth About Wicca and Neopaganism

What is Wicca and neopaganism? What is it all about? Many people at one time in their life or another wonder whether or not magick really exists, and if so can they learn the secrets. Unfortunately witches and other magickal folk have been given a bad reputation over the years and especially due to other religions (i.e. Christianity) forbidding the use of occult knowledge. Take the very word occult which has no negative connotation in and of itself yet has been turned into a word that means anything from "black magic" to "art of evil" etc. The word occult only means "hidden" and occult knowledge is hidden for a good reason. Just imagine everyone running around with the ability to bring their own personal wills to fruition, life would be even more chaotic and dangerous than it already is; that is why occult knowledge or "hidden" knowledge is so secretive.
Now, what is magick exactly? Is it good, evil, or both? Magick is the art of utilizing the energies around you to create change that is in tune with your will. Magick in and of itself is neither good nor evil but neutral. Magick is a tool; it is the intent of the tool user (or practitioner) is where magick can become good or evil. Most magickal people are considered "good" practitioners yet there are the few "evil" ones out there that seek to use their knowledge to destroy rather than create. So, what keeps us from wondering around doing whatever we want be it malevolent or not? The Wiccan maxim: "an it harm none, yet do what ye will" is based off of the "three fold law." The threefold law states that anything you do will come back to you. This law keeps many people from acting on impulse and compels them to consider their magickal work before going through with it.

So based on the above we can safely say that most Wiccans and neopagans are not evil people. In fact most are very loving and accepting people that have merely chosen to walk a different path than everyone else. One should not fear modern witches as if they would cast a hex on you for looking at them wrong, but treat them just like everyone else. I was raised to believe that all magick was evil, for anyone out there who was taught likewise I challenge you to examine your own belief and take a deeper look within and see if you don't find something a little occult.
