The Witch of Green Magick
Deep within the shadowy and mysterious back swamp land of South Louisiana was a little village named Arbre Noir (French for Black Tree). It was composed mostly of trappers and fishermen of the dark bayous that interlaced the swamp and their families. There were other citizens but most of them had different ways.
One such person was a young woman known as the Swamp Witch. Her given name was Reine but she was always referred to by the natives of Arbre Noir as the Swamp Witch. She was a beautiful young woman with creamy golden skin, almond-shaped chocolate eyes and a figure that would rival that of Aphrodite.
Reine lived in a shanty on stilts far back among the Spanish Moss draped live oaks and cypress trees. She was a witch of Green Magick, the practice of all herbal and natural elements of the Earth, Air, Water and Fire. She sustained herself mostly off the rich bounties of the swamp and used its many varied forms of plant life as well as her own special herbs that she grew in the rich delta dirt. She was a follower of the "white" magick practice and had for her familiar, a larger spectacular male owl named Oiseau.
The opposite of Reine was Madam Blanche, a Voo-doo priestess with a very strong following. Most everyone feared Madam Blanche not only for her strong power but her seductive beauty as well. Madam Blanche considered Reine of no consequence and Reine followed her belief of live and let live. Reine preferred to live in her own serene world, offering her services as a fortune teller, an herbal potion here and there and occasionally, a mojo bag amulet for luck, happiness or love.
Things existed fine this way until a certain handsome young trapper named Jean Manegra took a romantic interest in Reine. The infatuation was, of course, unknown to Reine. It would also happen to be that Jean fell under the focus of the latest love interest of Madam Blanche.
When Jean rejected the priestess' love offerings, Blanche flew into a fury even more so when she discovered Jean's interest in the comely Reine. Uncaring of consquences, Blanche cast a hex on both Jean and Reine. On Jean, she placed a love spell that she was the center of, turning him into a virtual zombie that did nothing or went anywhere without her command. On Reine, she sent an evil gris-gris on Reine's magick.
Still unaware of all of this, Reine was befuddled by all that kept happening to her. All her spells failed, her potions soured, and worst of all, Oiseau was injured by a hunter's bullet and her healing kept him alive but he mended slowly. She did a binding spell...it failed. She did a protection spell...it failed. She did a reversal spell...it failed. She was at a loss.
She took one of her rare trips into Arbre Noir and there she met her friend, Celeste. Now, Celeste was the source of who knew everything that was going on locally. She enlightened Reine to what was happening.
Reine then knew what to do. She returned to her home and began to search for the evil object that Blanche had to have planted for the gris-gris to continue to work through. She finally located it beneath the shanty.
It was a crude little doll made of rags with yarn hair, dotted black eyes and a frowning expression on its grotesque face. Inside the head and would be heart of the doll were stuck too black-headed sharp pins. Reine's skin crawled from the evil emanating from the vile thing. She knew exactly what to do with it.
She blessed it first and the purged its impact in fire. To further protect herself she made up an amulet of vervain and mandrake with rose hip and thyme to wear to prevent it from happening again. Her actions not only broke her curse but the love spell on Jean as well thus freeing him from his zombie state.
Blanche was infuriated but rendered powerless. Reine continued her practice of gentle magick with Oiseau healing quickly. As for Jean...he decided that he had enough of women with strange occupations and promptly found himself a pretty little barmaid to fall in love with!!
