Wicca: The Truths

As a Wiccan myself, I have come across some very frustrating myths. Some shed a dark light onto this religion while others just poke fun. This article will bring forth some truth on the religion Wicca. It will also provide ways to learn more!

Wicca is a dead religion. While Wicca is based off the ancient traditions of Witchcraft, it is a religion that is growing in popularity. According to the Religious Tolerance website, the estimated number of Wiccans from 2000 to 2008 have at least doubled*.

Wicca is like Atheism or Heathenism. Wiccans do not believe in Satan or the Devil or in an other evil creature. Wiccans believe in Goddesses and God. Wiccans believe that nature has a bigger part in our lives. Wiccans believe in peace and harmony and in a perfect center and balance.

Wicca Do Harm via Spells. Wiccans do not bring back the dead or put love spells on people. Spellcasting is not something Wiccans take lightly. Wiccans have beliefs and ethics that prevent them from performing spells that would harm anyone. The spells that Wiccans may perform is based off of the center belief of the Tri-Fold-Law (or Three-Fold-Law). According to Controversial,The law states that whatever you send out comes back to you times three. So if a Wiccan would curse someone they would feel the curse's power times three.

Wiccans Sacrifice Things Such Animals. ABSOLUTELY NOT! Again, think of the Tri-Fold-Law. Wiccans actually do quite the opposite - Wiccans preserve and cherish animals and other living things. Everything to Wiccans is a piece of nature. And nature is the center of the religion. Wiccans do NOT perform ANY type of sacrifice.

Wiccans Do Not have to Abide by Any Rule. Technically everyone has free will. BUT. Wiccans DO have to abide by the laws just like any citizen. While yes, Wiccans have a little bit more freedom in the religious beliefs and "laws" - they still have the Wiccan Rede ("And it harm none, do as ye will").

Wicca is a Cult. Wiccans do NOT go around telling people to join their religion. Wiccans do not even ask to teach a student (person who is wishing to learn the Wicca ways). The student must ask the teacher to aid them in their endeavor. Wiccans do not sell the religion to non-believers. They are, however, very open when it comes to religious conversations.

Wicca is a religion that focuses its energy on nature. Nature's cycle is how Wiccans celebrate their religion. It is how Wiccans keep their balance with not only themselves but with the word.

Wicca is a religion that helps Wiccans channel energy from their inner selves. It is a religion that aides the Wiccans to find their center and to keep that center in balance at all times. Most Wiccans are very down to earth and nature oriented. Wiccans follow their heart and cherish the Goddesses and Priestesses. Wiccans follow the Rede.

*Accurate numbers can not be established due to some Wiccans calling them Pagans (the branch of witchcraft that Wiccans stem from). Another reason for the lack of an actual number of Wiccans is because often Wiccans will not freely announce their religion due to fear for their safety.
